The Dark - Bellevue
The Dark takes place inside the Bellevue Underground Mine on October 31 and November 1, 2026. The race is a loop through the mine shaft: the shaft is 250 m long with a 1% grade, producing a 500 m lap. The gallery is roughly 4 m wide for most of its length, allowing multiple runners side by side except near the old mine car.
Competitors run for a set time and aim to complete as many laps to the end of the shaft as possible within their chosen period. Available time categories include 3, 6, 12 and 24 hours. The mine maintains a near-constant temperature of about 0 °C to 2 °C year round. A warming station with food is located at the mine entrance.
Entry is limited to 100 solo runners. Participants receive a custom snap-back hat, and a portion of proceeds supports the Bellevue Underground Mine. Local Halloween activities take place in the community, and a "Kids in the Dark" lap through the mine is planned for costumed children. Support crews may station themselves near the control point; if within the CP tent, setups must be minimal and not block race traffic.
