General Information

The Sinister 7 Ultra is an ultramarathon event held in the Rocky Mountains at Crowsnest Pass, Alberta. The event is scheduled for July 11-12, 2026.

Race Formats

The event offers several distances for solo runners or relay teams:

  • 100-Miler (approx. 161 km) – Solo or relay for teams of up to seven runners.
  • 50-Miler (approx. 80 km) – Solo only.
  • 50k – Solo only.
  • Half Marathon – Solo only.

The 100-mile and 50-mile courses are split into multiple stages. The 100-mile course features seven stages, each highlighting a geographic or historic point of interest in the area.

Schedule and Locations

The event begins on Friday with racer check-in, a pre-race dinner, and a racer meeting at the Crowsnest Sports Complex in Coleman.

Start times and locations vary by distance on Saturday:

  • 100-Miler, 50k, and Half Marathon: Start at Gazebo Park (Stone's Throw Café) in Blairmore.
  • 50-Miler: Start at the Green Mountain Campground Access in Coleman.
  • Kids Race: Starts at 1:00 PM.

Finish locations are either the Crowsnest Sports Complex in Coleman (100-Miler, 50-Miler) or Transition Area 2/3 (50k, Half Marathon).

Elevation and Time Limits

The cumulative elevation gain for each distance is as follows:

  • 100-Miler: 6,692 m of gain.
  • 50-Miler: 2,985 m of gain.
  • 50k: 2,399 m of gain.
  • Half Marathon: 1,014 m of gain.

Time limits to finish are 30 hours for the 100-Miler, 24 hours for the 50-Miler, 13.5 hours for the 50k, and 7.5 hours for the Half Marathon.

Race Logistics

Vehicle-accessible Transition Areas (TAs) are located at the end of each stage. They provide drinking water and food. Solo runners and teams can leave a drop bag at every TA. Checkpoints (CPs) are also located throughout each stage.

A support crew is recommended for solo runners. Crews can meet runners at the Transition Areas but not at the Checkpoints.

Registration and Awards

The registration deadline is June 21, 2026, or when the event is full. Registration includes a pre-race dinner, a technical race shirt, complimentary race photos, entry to the awards ceremony and post-race meal, and a medal for all finishers.

Cash prizes and awards are given to the top male and female solo finishers in the 100-mile and 50-mile categories. Awards are also provided for teams. Solo finishers of the 100-mile race under the 30-hour cutoff receive a belt buckle and a custom labeled bottle of wine. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
