Event details

The Critter is a New Year’s Day endurance event on January 1, 2026, held at Ingawanis Adventure Base, 2482 Grand Ave, Waverly, IA. Registration closes on December 28. Multiple timed options are offered and all events finish together on New Year’s Day.

Course and support

The course is a roughly 10K loop through mature forest with rocky ridges, large pines, and a river along the property edge. Each loop gains close to 1,000 ft of elevation. The 10K is a single loop; the timed events use repeated laps of this loop.

An indoor check-in station and drop-gear area are located at the historic dining hall at the start/finish area. Water, electrolyte drink mix, and aid-station snacks are provided at the start/finish. Participants are asked to bring their own gels and fuels and not to rely solely on aid-station food for the longer events. Camping options are available on site. Events include both Hike or Run divisions and Ruck divisions within each timed option. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
