The Cake Race

The Cake Race is a challenging 10-mile fell race held in Saddleworth, starting and finishing at the Diggle Hotel. The course features 1,700 feet of ascent over moorland, industrial heritage sites, and Pennine farmland, mainly on flagged paths, tracks, and trails. Runners tackle a steep initial climb onto the moors, fast sections around reservoirs, and a demanding flight of stone steps near Marsden before returning against the wind with scenic views.

Full kit, including waterproofs and navigation gear, is mandatory. The event is known for its welcoming atmosphere, culminating in a cake competition where participants bring homemade cakes to share and compete for prizes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
