The Brutal Extreme Triathlon
The Brutal Extreme Triathlon takes place on September 19th 2026 in Llanberis, North Wales. The event uses Llyn Padarn for the swim, public roads for the bike, and the Llanberis Path up and down Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) for the mountain section.
Distances offered include:
- Brutal Bach (Standard)
- Canol (Half)
- Mawr (Full)
- Cawr (Double)
- Goron (Triple) All distances can be entered solo or as a team of two to four members.
The swim is held in Llyn Padarn with laps in cold water; typical lake temperatures are 16 to 18 degrees Celsius. Competitors exit the lake every two laps and can access a basic lakeside aid point with hot drinks and snacks.
The bike uses an approximately 28 mile lap on open roads. The route includes a steep climb over Pen y Pass and fast descents back toward the event field. Weather can vary locally, so riders should be prepared for wind and rain on parts of the course.
The run comprises a 5 mile lake lap and a mountain section of about nine miles up and down Yr Wyddfa via the Llanberis Path. For Double and Triple entrants the mountain section is completed before the lake laps for safety.
Support crews are required for Double races and recommended for night sections; they must follow specific safety rules and attend the briefing for Double and Triple events. A mandatory kit list covers navigation and mountain safety items. Aid stations provide sports nutrition, snacks, water and soft drinks. Trophies are awarded to the first three male and female finishers in each race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
