The Brutal Extreme Triathlons
The Brutal Extreme Triathlons take place in Llanberis, North Wales, with swim, bike and run sections around Llyn Padarn and a mountain section on Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) via the Llanberis Path. The event offers multiple distance options and can be entered solo or as a team of 2 to 4.
Available distances
- Canol (Half): 1.2 mile lake swim, 56 mile bike, 5 mile lake lap plus Yr Wyddfa.
- Mawr (Full): 2.4 mile lake swim, 112 mile bike, 15 mile lake laps plus Yr Wyddfa.
- Cawr (Double): multiple laps of swim, bike and mountain, support crew required.
- Goron (Triple): extended multiple laps of all sections, support crew required.
Course details note that the swim uses laps in Llyn Padarn with lakeside aid and places to leave shoes. The bike uses an open road 28 mile lap with steep climbs including Pen y Pass and exposed weather conditions. The lake lap is about 5 miles and the mountain section is approximately 9 miles up and down the Llanberis Path. For the Double and Triple the mountain section is completed before lake laps for safety reasons.
Cutoffs and specific exit times apply per distance and athletes must meet these. Mandatory rules include wearing a hi viz vest on the bike at all times, helmet use, no drafting and no MP3 devices. Aid stations provide basic food and drink. A kit list and support crew requirements are specified for each race category. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
