The Brutal Extreme Triathlons : Llanberis, North Wales
The Brutal Extreme Triathlons are multi-distance triathlon events based at Llyn Padarn and Parc Padarn in Llanberis. Each race combines a lake swim, laps on a 28 mile bike course on open roads, a 5 mile lake lap run, and a mountain section on Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) via the Llanberis Path - an approximately 9 mile up-and-down route.
Distances available include:
- Canol (Half): 1.2 mile swim (2 laps), 56 miles bike (2 laps), 5 mile lake lap then the mountain section.
- Mawr (Full): 2.4 miles swim (4 laps), 112 miles bike (4 laps), 15 miles lake laps then the mountain section.
- Cawr (Double) and Goron (Triple): ultra distances with additional laps; available solo or as a team.
Races may be entered solo or as a relay team of 2–4 members; teams can divide swim, bike or run laps. The timing chip must be changed in the main HQ marquee and the mountain runner on Double entries must have support.
Safety and logistics: athletes must wear a hi-viz vest on the bike at all times; helmets are mandatory; no drafting or MP3 players; mount and dismount rules apply. Athletes undergo a quick medical check before the mountain section. Aid stations are located on the bike (mile 14), on the run (about 2.5 miles) and at HQ, offering drinks, Torq nutrition and snacks. A kit list is provided for athletes and required support crew for Double and Triple races. Trophies are awarded to the first three male and female finishers in each race.
