Braden James 5K Rainbow Run/Walk
The Braden James 5K Rainbow Run/Walk takes place on October 17, 2026 at the Trail at Bluemont Park, 601 N Manchester St., Arlington, VA. The event includes both an in-person 5K on the park trail and a virtual 5K option for remote participants.
Distances
- 5K in person includes a race shirt.
- Virtual 5K option to purchase a shirt and upload times and photos from 10/17 to 10/25.
Participants have access to on-site amenities including water, hot chocolate, coffee, cupcakes, donuts, live text and email results, and free finish line photos. Personalized bibs are available for those who register at least three weeks before the event.
Parking is available in designated areas near South Bluemont, but spaces are not guaranteed and are offered on a first come, first serve basis. Attendees are asked not to park on grass or block bike trails or residential driveways.
Bib pickup logistics differ by participation type. In-person bibs are available from event staff starting one hour before the event. Virtual bibs are mailed the Monday before the event with a 3–5 day delivery allowance. Last minute registrants may receive a bib number by text shortly after registering.
Awards include top overall male and female in the 5K, plus electronic gift cards for the top individual fundraiser and top fundraising team. The event benefits the Braden James Fund, which supports children and families facing DIPG and other pediatric brain cancers through PLAY, ADVOCATE, and CURE initiatives. Examples of funded work include pediatric playroom walls, advocacy for combination therapy legislation, and research into blood analysis and immune approaches for DIPG.
