The Bowes Loop Half (Pennine Way)
This event is a trail half marathon that starts and finishes in Bowes, with race registration at Bowes & Gilmonby Village Hall. The route follows sections of the Pennine Way, passing Bowes Castle on the way to the race start, then over God's Bridge and across Bowes Moor toward Blackton Reservoir. The course loops back past Goldsborough Carr and crosses Deepdale Beck before returning to Bowes.
Terrain is natural underfoot: dirt tracks, open fields, a stream crossing, tree roots and boggy sections, followed by about a mile of road into the finish. The route is exposed in places, and permanent Pennine Way route markers are followed throughout. Parking at the village hall is available but limited. Toilets and a bag drop are provided at race headquarters.
Organisers require participants to carry minimum kit: a packable waterproof jacket and trousers, a bivvy bag, a marked map, a fully charged mobile with organiser contact details, hat, gloves and at least 500 ml of water. A whistle and compass are recommended and spot kit checks will be performed. To reduce waste, no single use water bottles or disposable cups will be provided; runners should bring a reusable bottle for refills.
Included with entry are first aid provision, a race memento, on-route and finish refreshments at a checkpoint, and event photos on social media. Minimum entry age is 17. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
