The Boulevard Race
The Boulevard Race is a community running event held in Spokane’s University District. The event features a 4-mile run and walk through downtown streets that include tree-lined avenues, the Gateway Bridge, train trestles and tunnels, views of the Spokane River, and historic brick buildings such as the Schade Tower.
Course entertainment is a prominent element of the event. Along the route participants encounter themed cheer zones, scream tunnels, cow bells, bubbles, live bands, donut stops, a Frozen Zone, and DJs who play music approximately every quarter mile.
The race is presented as an event of Community Cancer Fund, a local nonprofit that provides financial support to cancer patients and families and funds regional organizations that serve them. Named partner organizations include Ronald McDonald House, Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital, YMCA Camp Goodtimes, and the WSU Medical School Pediatric Residency program at Providence. Over a recent nine year period Community Cancer Fund reported raising more than $28 million to support cancer patients.
Information on race logistics, registration, and race weekend services is provided by the organizers. The event lists multiple corporate partners and local sponsors and identifies its beneficiary as Community Cancer Fund, which focuses on addressing gaps in services for cancer patients across the Inland Northwest.
