The Big Melbourne Kilt Run
The Big Melbourne Kilt Run is a community fun run on The Tan Track at Kings Domain Gardens, organised in support of the Heart Foundation. The marked lap is 3.827 km and runs clockwise from the Pillars of Wisdom, following Alexandra Avenue, turning up Anderson Street, returning along the gravel Tan Track by Birdwood Avenue and past the Shrine of Remembrance to complete the circuit.
Participants may run, jog or walk, enter solo or as a team, and are encouraged to wear kilts or other tartan items though these are not required. Entrants wearing a race bib with a timing chip can download a participation certificate with their run time after the event. The first three placegetters in each category receive a Kilt Runner medal and children receive participation certificates.
Event facilities include a check in and bag drop marquee near the Pillars of Wisdom, a first aid station at the start finish area, public toilets nearby and water bottle refill points along the course. Photographers will capture finish line moments and images will be available for purchase after the event. There are no road closures for the run so participants must take care when crossing Alexandra Avenue. Registrations made after 23 February are not guaranteed a race bib with a timing chip.
