The Big Bear Run 10k

The Big Bear Run is a road running event held in August 2027 at Askham Bryan Wildlife Park and College, York. The main distance is 10 km. The route is run entirely on road and follows a countryside loop through the local villages of Askham Richard and Bilbrough, with both the start and finish located within the grounds of the wildlife park.

The event is held on closed roads, is chip timed, and is England Athletics licensed. Finishers receive a bear themed medal that includes a South Korean design element, and cake is provided at the finish. Race entry includes admission to the wildlife park, with options to add further park tickets.

Proceeds support Project Moon Bear, a conservation partner that rescues and rehabilitates Asiatic black bears. Funds raised are allocated to essential veterinary equipment, anaesthetic and monitoring equipment for health checks, resources for secure relocation to sanctuaries, and awareness work relating to those rescue and rehabilitation efforts.

Askham Bryan Wildlife Park and Conservation Park opened in 2017, welcomes about 20,000 visitors a year, and houses over 100 species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and invertebrates. The event is organised by Curly's Athletes, a community and charity event team that works with multiple charity partners and the Curly's Athlete Foundation.
