The Bad Thing
The Bad Thing Trail Race is scheduled for October 24, 2026. It is a point to point trail event in Huron County, Ontario, that follows the Maitland Trail and finishes at the Auburn Riverside Retreat.
Available race distances:
- 50K point to point from Goderich to Auburn.
- 25K starting roughly halfway along the 50K course.
The course is composed mainly of single track and is described as highly technical, with a small amount of road and groomed trail. Conditions can be muddy and the terrain demanding; the event is not intended for inexperienced trail runners.
Logistics are centered at the Auburn Riverside Retreat. Participants must check in there and take the provided bus to the start; the bus ride includes the race briefing and attendance on the bus is required to compete. The minimum age for participants is 18 years.
A catered post race meal will be provided by Pineridge BBQ with chicken, pork, or vegan options. The listed elevation change for the course is 4816 feet and organizers note unpredictable weather. All sales are final; refunds, transfers, or deferrals are not issued and race proceeds benefit charitable organizations in Huron County.
