The American Mile
The American Mile is a point-to-point running event held in Longport, New Jersey. Sponsored by the Longport Volunteer Fire Department, the race takes place on July 4. The course follows a straight path starting at 11th Avenue and Atlantic Avenue and finishes at Pelham Avenue. Participants run north along Atlantic Avenue for the duration of the event.

Packet pickup and race day registration are available at the Longport Fire House on Atlantic Avenue during designated morning and afternoon windows. The event also offers a non-running option for those who wish to purchase an official event shirt.
Following the competition, a post-race awards ceremony is held at the Longport Fire House. This gathering includes refreshments such as hot dogs and drinks for all participants. Awards are presented to the top three male and female overall finishers. Additionally, prizes are awarded to the top three finishers across several age categories, ranging from age 11 to 70 and over. Nearby fireworks in Margate are scheduled for later in the evening following the race festivities.
