The Amazons Australia 2026
The Amazons Australia is a female only adventure stage race held in Mission Beach in the Cassowary Coast, Tropical North Queensland from 5 to 8 July 2026. The event is part of the Adventure Racing World Series Oceania Region and follows ARWS rules. The 2025 event was the first ARWS all women event.
Racing is conducted as a stage race with a designated start and finish each day and no night racing. Each day competitors are on course for up to eight hours. Navigation with map and compass is a core requirement and controls are located by map rather than by directional course markers.
The main disciplines are trekking, mountain biking and paddling. Organisers provide kayaks including double inflatable boats for white water and surge kayaks for ocean sections. Paddles and personal flotation devices may be provided but teams may bring their own. A helmet and one throw bag per team are required. Competitors must supply their own mountain bikes and e bikes are not permitted.
Teams of two receive two gear drop bags per day with a maximum packed volume and weight of 5 litres and 5 kilograms each. Mandatory equipment is checked at registration and may be checked during the event. GPS and communication devices are restricted under ARWS rules with a specific approved GARMIN permitted in AR MODE. Age limits apply with a minimum of 15 years when accompanied by an adult and 18 years to compete unaccompanied.
The course visits wilderness areas and participants are provided with wildlife awareness guidance covering local hazards such as cassowaries, crocodiles, snakes and stinging plants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
