The 90th McConnell Shield
The 90th McConnell Shield is a cross country meeting on 14 November 2026 at Six Mile Water Park in Ballyclare, County Antrim. The event is part of the NI Athletics XC league and races will be chip timed. Toilets are provided at the course.
Races and distances include:
- 800 m U12 boys and girls
- 1 mile U14 boys and girls
- 2 miles U16 boys and girls
- 3 miles senior ladies, lady vets and M60+
- 5 miles McConnell Shield for men and male vets
Entries open Monday 7 September 2026 and close Wednesday 11 November 2026. Entry fees are £10 affiliated and £11 unaffiliated for the men and ladies races, and £4 for U12, U14 and U16 races. Entry is via SiEntries; no entries will be taken on race day. Number collection is at the East Antrim Harriers clubhouse, Harrier Way, Ballyclare BT39 9BB on race day. Name transfers are permitted on SiEntries up to the closing date. Deferrals are not offered.
Age rules for junior races are strict: competitors must be under 12 for U12, under 14 for U14 and under 16 for U16 on the day. Prizes include age category awards plus the Ladies trophy, the Bertie Grimason trophy for male vets and the McConnell Shield. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
