Thanksgiving Day Race to Be Thankful

The Thanksgiving Day Race to Be Thankful is an annual running and walking event held in Greenwood, South Carolina. The race is organized by the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection and is currently in its 11th year. The event takes place within the Gatewood subdivision, utilizing a course that consists of paved roads with a rolling terrain and minimal vehicle traffic.

Participants follow a route that passes several neighborhood features, including local ponds and wooded areas. The event is open to individuals of different ages and abilities. Registration options are available both with and without a commemorative t-shirt, though specific deadlines apply for shirt orders.

Available distances include:

Awards are presented to the overall top male and female finishers, as well as the top male and female runners in the masters category. Additional prizes are awarded to winners within 10 year age group increments. After the race, refreshments such as homemade pumpkin bread, coffee, and hot chocolate are provided to participants.

The event serves as a charitable fundraiser, with all profits donated to local organizations. Supported entities include the Greenwood Food Bank, the Greenwood Soup Kitchen, United Ministries, Community Initiatives, and Pathway House. Packet pickup is organized on the day prior to the race at the Church of the Resurrection and on the morning of the event at the Gatewood Club.
