Race the Helix - Greenwood
Race the Helix is an annual fundraising event held on September 19, 2026 at the Greenwood Genetic Center in Greenwood, SC. The event was inspired by one family's desire to raise awareness for genetic disorders and to fund genetic research. Proceeds benefit the Greenwood Genetic Center Foundation.
Distances offered include:
- 5K run or walk with chip timing
- 1 mile walk
- Virtual 5K
The 5K course can accommodate strollers and wheelchairs. The 1 mile course is open to walkers, runners, strollers, and wheelchairs. Pre-packaged snacks and water will be provided.
Registration opens March 30, 2026 and closes September 19, 2026. Registration fees listed for the events are $25.00 for the 5K and the virtual 5K, and $0.00 for the 1 mile walk.
Awards include 1st place overall male and female and 1st place male and female in each age group. Age group categories are 12 and under, 13 to 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, and 70 and over.
Preordered t-shirts and 5K race bibs can be picked up at the race. An early pickup option for preordered items is available at the Greenwood Genetic Center at 106 Gregor Mendel Circle on the day before the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
