Event Overview

The Race the Helix - Greenwood is a running and walking event held on Saturday, September 19, 2026. It is the 16th annual edition, inspired by a family's initiative to raise awareness and funding for genetic disorders and research. All proceeds from the event benefit the Greenwood Genetic Center Foundation.

Location & Courses

The event is based at the Greenwood Genetic Center at 101 Gregor Mendel Circle in Greenwood, South Carolina. Participants can choose from three different events:

  • A chip-timed 5K run or walk.
  • A 1-mile course for walkers and runners.
  • A Virtual 5K option.

Both the 5K and 1-mile courses are listed as accommodating strollers and wheelchairs.

Event Details

Pre-packaged snacks and water will be provided. Awards are given for the first-place overall male and female finishers, as well as the first-place male and female in multiple age group categories ranging from 12 and under to 70+. Online t-shirt sales close on September 5, with a limited number available for purchase on race day. Race bib and t-shirt pickup begins at 8:00 AM on the event day at the venue. An early pickup option is available at the Greenwood Genetic Center (106 Gregor Mendel Circle) on Friday, September 18, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
