Teesdale Triathlon 2026

The Teesdale Triathlon is an annual multi-sport event organized by the Darlington Triathlon Club in Barnard Castle. The race is centered at the Teesdale Leisure Centre and takes place across the local countryside. The event is open to participants aged 16 and over, accommodating both experienced athletes and those completing their first triathlon.

The competition follows a sprint distance format consisting of three distinct disciplines:

  • 400m pool swim at the Teesdale Leisure Centre
  • 17-mile (approximately 20 km) undulating bike course
  • 3-mile (approximately 5 km) off-road run route

The swim takes place in a pool where participants are organized into lanes based on their estimated 400m swim times. Breaststroke and front crawl are permitted, though backstroke is not allowed. The cycling portion consists of a single lap through the countryside, followed by a one-lap run that finishes back at the leisure centre.

The event utilizes chip timing for all competitors. On-site facilities include parking, changing areas, toilets, and hot showers. Accessible features such as parking, toilets, and changing facilities are also available. Participants receive a custom t-shirt and a finisher prize upon completion of the race. Awards are presented for various age group categories, with special recognition for first-time triathletes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
