Tears and Gears 2026
Tears and Gears returns to Fernie, British Columbia on August 29, 2026 as a trail duathlon combining running and mountain biking. The event raises funds for a scholarship fund and aims to promote use of the local trail network within an inclusive community setting.
Start and finish are located at the Elk Valley Nordic Centre. The race is limited to 200 participants. The event began in 2010, ran annually through 2019 for its tenth anniversary, and resumes after a six year hiatus.
Categories and eligibility include Classic Solo, Classic Team, and a Youth race. Competitors aged 12 and older may enter the Classic race; youth categories are available for younger participants and are reflected in the fee structure.
Distances offered:
- Classic race 11 km run then 16 km bike
- Youth race 5 km run then 5 km bike
Fees and registration details show Classic entry at CA$115 and Youth at CA$55. Entries are handled on a first come first served basis and registration closes August 15, 2026. Entry fees include event branded swag, a post race barbecue by donation, beer and non alcoholic drinks, staffed aid stations, draw prizes, and podium prizes.
