Tears and Gears 2026
Tears and Gears is a mountain duathlon combining trail running and mountain biking, held in Fernie, BC. The start and finish are at Elk Valley Nordic Centre. The event began in 2010, ran annually until 2019, and returns after a six-year hiatus to support a scholarship fund.
Race categories include Classic Solo and Classic Team, plus Youth Solo and Youth Team. Distances are:
- 11 km run, 16 km bike (Classic)
- 5 km run, 5 km bike (Youth)
Entry is limited to 200 racers. Registration closes on August 15, 2026 and places are allocated first come, first served. There is no option to enter run-only or bike-only; competitors must complete both disciplines or race with a teammate. Published fees are CA$115 for Classic entries and CA$55 for Youth entries. Fees include branded merchandise, a post-race BBQ by donation, beverage options (FBC beer, sparkling water, and pop available), a stocked aid station, draw prizes, and podium prizes.
