Team West Memorial Race
The Team West Memorial Race is an annual event held in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania. The upcoming installment marks the 13th year of the event and coincides with the 20 year anniversary for Captain Jason M. West. The race serves to honor the memory of Captain West, a Slippery Rock University (SRU) graduate and member of the U.S. Army who was killed in the line of duty in 2006.
The event takes place at Mile Marker 7.6 on the Montour Trail, specifically at the old Enlow Ball Park located at 24 McClaren Road. Participants can choose between two primary distances:
- 5 km run
- 1 mile walk
The course organization requires runners to line up at the front of the pack, while walkers position themselves at the rear. Registration fees include a race shirt if completed by July 1st, though shirts are not guaranteed for late or race-day registrations. Free parking is available on-site for all participants.
Proceeds from the registration fees are directed toward a scholarship at Slippery Rock University. This scholarship supports students in the university's Army ROTC program and those pursuing military careers. Awards are presented to the top three overall runners, as well as the top three male and female finishers across several age categories ranging from 19 and under to 60 and over.
