Tavistock Triathlon - The Squirrel

Tavistock Triathlon takes place at Mount Kelly in Tavistock, on the edge of Dartmoor National Park. The event uses Mount Kelly’s 50m Olympic Legacy Pool for the swim and finishes in front of Mount Kelly School, described by the organiser as Harry Potter style. Bike and run routes pass through Dartmoor moorland and include mostly traffic free sections and viaduct views.

The event offers three senior race formats:

  • LITTLE SQUIRREL Super Sprint: 200m swim, 12.3 km bike, 2.5 km run
  • BIG SQUIRREL Sprint: 400m swim, 18 km bike, 5.4 km run
  • OLYMPIC SQUIRREL Olympic: 800m swim, 36 km bike, 10 km run

Junior events for five to 16 year olds run in the afternoon. Entry age limits for senior races are stated by the organiser; the Super Sprint allows entrants from 15 years and the Sprint and Olympic categories from 17 years on the relevant year end date. All finishers receive a medal.

Tavistock forms part of the Cornish Tri Series. Series scoring uses a best of three results system and requires athletes to complete at least three events and either volunteer themselves or bring a volunteer to one event to qualify for overall awards. Volunteering also generates credits or discounts for future events and can be used to raise funds for clubs or schools. Entry fees are shown in a range in the event offers.
