Tavistock Triathlon The Squirrel
Tavistock Triathlon The Squirrel is a pool-based triathlon held at Mount Kelly, Tavistock PL19 0HZ, on the edge of Dartmoor National Park. The swim takes place in Mount Kelly’s 50 m Olympic Legacy Pool. Bike routes run through Dartmoor’s open moorlands and the run courses are mostly traffic free with views from towering viaducts. The finish is in front of Mount Kelly School, described as a "Harry Potter style" building.
Event distances are offered in three formats:
- LITTLE SQUIRREL Super Sprint: 200 m swim | 12.3 k bike | 2.5 k run
- BIG SQUIRREL Sprint: 400 m swim | 18 k bike | 5.4 k run
- OLYMPIC SQUIRREL Olympic: 800 m swim | 36 k bike | 10 k run
The event is part of the Cornish Tri Series where overall awards are scored from the athlete’s best three results and series qualification requires completing a minimum of three events plus volunteering or bringing a volunteer to at least one event. Age categories include Open (17-39 yrs), Vet (40-49 yrs), Super Vet (50-59 yrs), Vintage (60-69 yrs) and Super Vintage (70+).
Junior races for 5 to 16 year olds take place in the afternoon. All competitors receive a medal on completion. Olympic distance entries are limited. Volunteer roles start from age 13 and volunteering carries entry credit rewards to the organiser’s wallet system. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
