Tantalus 10-Mile Challenge
The Tantalus 10-Mile Challenge is a distance running event held in Honolulu. The course consists of a single loop that begins on Makiki Heights Drive near Halau Kumana School. Participants navigate a route that includes significant elevation changes through the local landscape.
The race itinerary includes the following distance:
- 10 miles
The course begins with an uphill section along Makiki Heights Drive. This climb continues as the route transitions onto Tantalus Drive, where participants ascend for approximately five miles. After reaching the upper elevations, the course transitions into a downhill segment on Round Top Drive. The final portion of the race requires runners to return to Makiki Heights Drive, concluding with a final uphill section toward the finish line.
The event is open to participants between the ages of 2 and 99. For individuals who anticipate a finishing time of more than 2.5 hours, an optional early start is available. Participants choosing the early start are required to provide their own illumination, such as a flashlight or headlamp, to navigate during the early morning hours. Early starters are not eligible for age group or overall awards. Registration for the event typically opens in April. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
