2nd Annual TALI Croft State Park Off-Road Duathlon
This event at Croft State Park in Spartanburg, South Carolina, stages multiple off-road duathlon races on park trails. Each race follows a run-bike-run format on natural surface trails and mountain-bike singletrack. The organizer covers the park entry fee for athletes and volunteers.
Distances reported for the event entries include:
- Adult sprint duathlon - 15 miles
- Youth super sprint duathlon - 5 miles
- Relay event - 15 miles
- High school off-road duathlon - 8 miles
Course notes from the organizer describe the adult route beginning with a trail run on paths also used by horses; participants may encounter horse droppings. The mountain-bike segments include climbing, drops and water crossings and use looped singletrack. The youth race begins on a 1-mile nature trail through mixed pine and hardwood along Fairforest Creek, followed by a single lap mountain-bike section and a short out-and-back finish on Crags Trail. The high school distance is described as a trail run followed by a 5-mile mountain-bike leg and a final trail run.
The organizer is collecting canned goods for a local Spartanburg food bank and asks participants to bring two cans per person. The first 15 athletes who have not previously raced a TALI event will receive a special gift from the organizer. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
