Takshanuk Ridge Run : 8th Annual
The Takshanuk Ridge Run is a trail race in Haines, Alaska, covering 11.5 miles from the 7 Mile Saddle Trailhead and finishing in central Haines. The route goes through temperate rainforest and along an alpine ridgeline. A shuttle to the race start is available from Alaska Backcountry Outfitters, located across from the Haines Visitor Center. A beer or root beer token is provided at Haines Brewing Company at the conclusion of the race. An award ceremony will be held at Haines Brewing Company and prizes are planned for the top three finishers and for most improved time. Race profits will be donated to the Haines Glacier Bears middle and high school cross country running programs. The published registration fee is $40.00.
The course is in wilderness and bear country. Mandatory racing gear includes a wind jacket, food and water, and a waste bag or backpack; racers must also carry bear spray. There are no aid stations and the event is semi-autonomous, so participants should plan and carry their own supplies. Racers must pack out any trash. Borrowable bear spray and air horns will be available at the race start. External aid is not permitted except in emergencies, and doping is prohibited. The race director may modify the route, reschedule, or cancel the event for safety. The TRR and the CVCRC are not liable for accidents, neglect, or loss.
