Klondike Road Relay : Course overview
The Klondike Road Relay is an overnight road relay that follows the historic Klondike gold rush route from Skagway, Alaska to downtown Whitehorse, Yukon. The course climbs steeply out of Skagway to the White Pass summit at 1004 metres and then continues across the Canadian border through British Columbia and into the Yukon.
The route contains a mix of steep climbs, long rolling sections, lakeshore running and highway stretches. Notable features include the Moore Creek suspension bridge, Tutshi Lake shoreline, Bove Island Viewpoint, the Carcross area and the Miles Canyon approach into Whitehorse. Walkers and youth runners join the event in Carcross. Runners must follow directions from station personnel when crossing roads and when traffic controls are in place, and are advised that visibility and weather can be variable in the pass.
