The Tabor Challenge
The Tabor Challenge is a community running event held in Mt. Tabor Park in Portland, Oregon. Participants navigate a course that is approximately 5 km in length. The route features varied terrain, including paved sections, narrow trails, and stairs. The event takes place annually in April, with the start line situated near the information center within the park.
Specific activities and distances include:
- 5 km run/walk through the city park
- Toddler Trot for young children
The event is dog friendly, provided that dogs are kept on a mandatory leash and are comfortable in crowded environments with significant commotion. While strollers are permitted on the course, participants should be aware of the narrow trails and stair sections included in the route.
The Tabor Challenge serves as a fundraiser for local causes. Proceeds support the LTJG Thomas J. Cameron Scholarship and the Memorial Field House at Cleveland High School. Aardvark trophies are awarded as part of the event. On-site registration is available on the morning of the race, though shirts are only guaranteed for those who register several weeks in advance.
Packet pickup is organized on the day prior to the event at the Cleveland High School sports field or at the park on the morning of the run. To ensure participant safety, vehicle access to the park is restricted during the event, and attendees are encouraged to park near the entrance at 69th and Yamhill.
