T-Rex Triathlon & Duathlon Series

The T-Rex Series includes three race dates at Island Lake Recreation Area in Brighton, Michigan: Triceratops on June 24, 2026; Pterodactyl on July 22, 2026; and T-Rex on August 19, 2026. A Michigan Recreation Passport is required to attend. Race day packet pick-up and late registration are available at the race site from 3:30pm - 5:30pm. Packet pick-up is limited to the athlete named on the entry per USAT rules.

Distances are:

  • Triathlon: 0.5 Mile swim, 12.4 Mile bike, 3.1 Mile run
  • Duathlon: 1.5 Mile run, 12.4 Mile bike, 3.1 Mile run

Participants will be assigned to swim waves. No drafting is permitted. Headphones are not allowed on the bike and run segments. Participants must meet the age requirement: at least 14 years old and turning 15 before December 31 of the event year.

Wetsuit rules follow USA Triathlon standards: wetsuits are allowed without penalty up to 78°F, permitted at participant discretion with award ineligibility from greater than 78°F to less than 84°F, and prohibited above 84°F.

Awards include individual event overall awards for men and women, age group awards three deep in five-year age groups, a T-Rex Series pint glass prize, and chip timing for age group awards with gun time used for overall places.

The Cretaceous Club Championship awards club points for finishers and age-group placings. Clubs earn one point for each registered club member who completes a race and additional points for top-five age group places: first 10 points, second 8 points, third 6 points, fourth 4 points, fifth 2 points. The club with the most series points receives its name on the Golden T-Rex Trophy, a 2026 award plaque, and a tri season kick-off party in 2027.

A KP Strong award accompanies an annual donation of $1,500 to cancer research and is given to the male and female series finisher whose finish time is closest to a designated benchmark time. Names of award winners will be engraved on a commemorative trophy displayed at future events. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
