Event overview
The Sy-5K takes place on Friday, January 16, 2026, at Audubon Park, 342 W. Oates Rd., Garland, TX 75043. The event has a science fiction theme and includes multiple ways to participate: an in-person 5K, an in-person 2 Mile option, a Kid's Dash and a Virtual Option. The Kid's Dash is a short 100–200 m sprint and the 2 Mile option is an untimed event.

Entry, apparel and awards
Standard entry prices listed are $42 for the 5K, $20 for the 2 Mile, and $40 for the Virtual Option. The 5K and 2 Mile prices increase after January 8, 2026. Registrants for the 5K and 2 Mile receive an event-themed participation t-shirt and a finisher medal; registrants who register by December 27 are guaranteed a t-shirt size. The Virtual Option includes shipping of the shirt and medal the week of the race.
Age-group awards apply to the 5K only; age groups are awarded four deep across male and female divisions from 0-4 through 80+. Overall and masters divisions (40+) and grand masters (60+) will receive overall medals. Awards are distributed at the event and will not be shipped.
Additional notes
Volunteers are offered a code for a free race entry as a thank-you. Run Different will donate a portion of proceeds to Encounter Church (Fate): 15% of profits and 100% of donations. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
