Swindon Half Marathon
The Swindon Half Marathon is a closed-road half marathon held in late September at Coate Water Country Park, Swindon. The route covers 13.1 miles through Swindon and the surrounding countryside, passing the villages of Wanborough, Badbury and Medbourne. The course is mostly flat for the first five miles, becomes undulating between miles five and ten, includes a sustained climb around miles eight to ten to the highest point near mile thirteen, and then drops toward a lakeside finish. The route lists an elevation gain of 170 m.
Race services include chip-timed results, three water stations positioned at approximately every 5 km / 3 miles, portable toilets (including facilities near the second water station), a secure bag drop, and free professional race photos. Entries receive a unique themed medal and post-race goodies. An event village at Coate Water provides food and drink options and viewing for the start and finish.
Practical details note free parking at the Polo Ground with an approximately 10-minute walk to the Event Village, road closures on much of the course, a three hour cut-off for the half marathon due to road re-openings, accessibility for wheelchair athletes and running buggies, and a rule that dogs are not permitted to run with participants while spectators may bring dogs on leads.
