Swarthmore Lions Independence Eve 8K
The event is an annual Swarthmore community road event held on Wednesday, July 3, 2026, in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania. It offers two distances:
- 8K (5 mile)
- 2 1/2 Mile Walk
The 8K follows a relatively flat route through tree lined residential neighborhoods of Swarthmore. The 2 1/2 Mile Walk follows the first loop of the 8K course.
Registration is available in advance and on the day of the event. The regular entry fee is $30 and the race day fee is $35. Registration opens in April and closes on July 2, 2026. On site registration and packet pick up are held in the Borough Hall lobby at 121 Park Avenue in Swarthmore on the day of the event.
Awards are presented to the first three overall male and female finishers and to the first three male and female finishers in nine age groups: 10 and under, 11-13, 14-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 and over. Tech t shirts are guaranteed to preregistered participants while supplies last. Refreshments are provided after the event. Proceeds support Lions charities including organizations that assist the visually impaired such as the Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Chester and the Delaware Valley Eye Bank.
