Swan Lake Grit-N-Gravel Triathlon
Swan Lake Resort & Campground hosts a multi-discipline event around Swan Lake featuring a swim, a bike leg, and a trail run. The event includes individual and team relay triathlon options plus a kids duathlon on the resort property.
- Swim: 1,000 yard swim from a sandy beach around marked buoys.
- Bike: 18 mile route mixing gravel and paved trail.
- Run: 4 mile out-and-back on trails and gravel road.
The swim departs from a sandy beach into Swan Lake, with a maximum depth of 8 ft and typical August water temperatures near 70°F. The swim segment will be patrolled by Otter Tail County Sheriff water patrol and Dalton Fire & Rescue for participant safety.
The bike course covers approximately 18 miles with about 60% hilly gravel roads and 40% pavement on the Central Lakes Trail, totaling over 1,000 feet of elevation gain. Athletes use County Road 29 for short access segments and an aid station is located at the halfway point in Dalton. Turn signage and volunteers will support crossings and traffic control.
The 4 mile run begins on resort hiking trails, moves onto a gravel road and climbs at Ugly Duckling Lodge, with mixed surfaces including prairie trail and wooded paths. A small aid station sits at the turnaround.
Timing will be manual and casual; organizers will acknowledge men's and women's podium finishers but will not provide detailed timing reports or splits. Relay captains must register first, select a team name, and pay the full team fee. Registration requires a USA Triathlon membership ID; single race membership fees listed by category in registration materials. Entry fees in the event listing are $60 for individual triathletes, $125 for relay teams, and free for the kids race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
