Event details

Survival of the Fittest takes place on Saturday, May 9, 2026, on the Capilano University (formerly Quest) lands in Squamish, BC. Distances offered are:

  • 18 km
  • 35 km
  • Kids Race (about 1 km)

The Kids Race is non-timed, typically attracts children aged about 3–10, is free to enter, and adults may run with children. Each adult entry includes a $5 donation to Squamish Search & Rescue, one tree planted per entry, branded race items, post-race sushi and massage, and professional chip timing. Entry caps and fees are listed for the 18 km and 35 km distances.

The event acknowledges that it takes place on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation).

Course and logistics

Both courses form loops on the Capilano/Quest University trail network with mixed terrain, climbing, descending, runnable and technical sections, and valley views of the Tantalus Range. The routes include local trails such as Legacy, Megacy, STP, Somewhere Over There, Hoods In The Woods, and Blaine’s Connector, and cross two bridges over Darwin’s and Carpenter’s Son. Elevation change is approximately 1050 m ascent/descent for the 18 km and 1650 m ascent/descent for the 35 km.

Aid stations: 18 km has one at 9 km; 35 km has stations at 5, 17 and 28 km (two unique stations, one visited twice). Stations provide gels, energy drink mix, Coke, water, chips, fruit and cookies. Aid stations are off limits to crew and spectators. The race is cup-free; runners must carry their own cup. Hiking poles are not allowed. A bag check tent is available but not monitored; runners should label bags. Cutoffs are enforced by distance and elapsed time into each run.
