Superhero for Hope 8th Annual Run/Walk 5K
The Superhero for Hope event is a community 5K presented by the Medical Society of Delaware to support the MSD Campaign for Kids, an initiative addressing seven youth issues: obesity, bullying, violence, intelligent decisions, opioid abuse, underage drinking, and suicide. The event takes place at Rockford Park in Wilmington, Delaware, with the course starting and finishing near the Rockford Tower. The route includes one loop around the park, an out-and-back section along Tower Drive to Penna Avenue with a turnaround at A.I. Middle School, then a final loop through the park. The course is described as shaded in the early morning.
Event options include:
- 5K Run / Walk
- 5K Competitive walking, which requires participants to walk the entire race
Amenities listed for participants include unisex tee shirts and post-race refreshments and music. Timing is provided using the MYLAPS BibTag chip system. Awards are given to overall top finishers and masters, and to top three male and female finishers in 10-year age groups from 13 and under through 70 and over; top three male and female walkers are also recognized. Overall and masters awards are scored by gun time while all other age groups use chip net time. Policies note that dogs are not allowed due to insurance liability and that bibs are non-transferable.
