Superhero 5k - Athens
The Superhero 5k returns to Athens, Ohio, for its 13th edition at Richland Avenue Park. This family-oriented event supports Athens County Children Services (CASA) and includes activities designed for participants of various ages. Attendees can participate in person or join virtually from any location by completing a 5 km distance through running, walking, cycling, or other forms of movement.
The event features two primary athletic options:
- 5 km run or walk
- 0.1 mile youth obstacle course for children ages 12 and under
Participants in the youth obstacle course also have the option to complete the full 5 km distance. On-site activities at Richland Avenue Park include a bounce house, face painting, and various crafts. Registration includes event materials such as a superhero-themed cape and a personalized bib.
Check-in takes place at the park on the day of the event, where race materials are distributed. Merchandise from the organizing charity is also available for purchase. In the event that public health circumstances prevent an in-person gathering, the race will transition to a fully virtual format. The event serves as a fundraiser to support local children who have experienced abuse or neglect, following recent changes in federal funding for victim-serving organizations.
