The Sunrise on the Square Road Race 5K
The Sunrise on the Square Labor Day Road Race is an annual event held in Downtown Newnan on the Saturday before Labor Day and has been run for over 40 years. The 2026 edition takes place on September 5, 2026.
The event features a USATF certified 5K course with chip timing and timing mats placed throughout the route. Individual time is recorded when a runner crosses the mats at the starting line and again at the finish line. Participants receive a race t-shirt. The route begins in Downtown Newnan and runs through "The City of Homes," passing historic in-town neighborhoods and the commercial district. The course includes a variety of terrain, with long flat stretches, downhill sections, and uphill sections.
The race is co-hosted by the City of Newnan Leisure Services and Main Street Newnan and benefits the Newnan High School Record Breaking Booster Club NXC. Sponsors for 2026 include Piedmont Newnan and the Craver Family. Organizers provide online registration and a printable registration form.
