About the race
The Sunrise on the Square Road Race 5 km is a longtime Labor Day weekend event held in Downtown Newnan. It has run annually on the Saturday before Labor Day for over 40 years. The 2026 edition is scheduled for September 5, 2026.
The race begins in Downtown Newnan and runs through "The City of Homes," passing historic in-town neighborhoods and the commercial district. The course is USATF certified and uses chip timing. Chip timing records each runner as they cross timing mats at the start, along the course, and at the finish. Runners receive a race t shirt.
The course includes a variety of terrain, with long flat stretches as well as downhill and uphill sections. The event is co hosted by the City of Newnan Leisure Services department and Main Street Newnan and is presented in partnership to benefit the Newnan High School Record Breaking Booster Club NXC.
