Sun Run: La Primera
Sun Run: La Primera takes place at Danny Lopez Park in Tucson and uses a loop along the Santa Cruz River Path through the Sweetwater Riparian area. The course includes gently rolling hills and this is the third year the race uses the current course. The 10 km course is USATF certified and the 10 km entry is part of the SAR Grand Prix series.
Distances offered include:
- 10 km : USATF certified and part of the SAR Grand Prix
- 5 km : road race on the same loop course
- 1 mile FitKidz Mile : race for children
Pre-race packet pickup is available the day before the event at The Running Shop, 3055 N. Campbell Ave, with additional packet distribution on race day as supplies remain. Organizers note that registering children before race day helps ensure bib assignment and accurate electronic timing.
SAR members receive a discount that covers RunSignup fees at SAR-owned races. The event benefits the Gratitude and Grace Foundation, which supports families recovering from organ transplant and substance abuse disorder. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
