Event overview
Sun Run: La Primera 5K/10K Roadrace with FitKidz Mile takes place on January 18, 2026 at Danny Lopez Park, 4300 N. Silverbell Rd, Tucson, AZ 85745. The event includes the following distances:
- 10K (part of The Running Shop SAR Grand Prix)
- 5K
- FitKidz Mile
This is the second year the race uses the current course at the newly named Danny Lopez Park (formerly Christopher Columbus Park). The FitKidz Mile is scheduled after the main races.
Course, registration and awards
The running route is a scenic loop along the Santa Cruz River Path through the Sweetwater Riparian area, featuring gently rolling hills rather than an out-and-back layout. The start and finish are located on the far southeast corner of Danny Lopez Park, near Ramada #8; parking is available throughout the park to the west of that area. Pre-race packet pickup is offered the day before at The Running Shop, 3055 N. Campbell Ave, with additional pickup available on race day.
Both the 5K and 10K award the top three finishers in five-year age groups. The first 500 registered participants receive a race t-shirt and a medal. SAR members receive a registration discount that covers RunSignup fees.
Charity and partners
The event benefits the Gratitude and Grace Foundation, which supports families recovering from organ transplant and substance abuse disorder.
