Sun Run: La Primera is scheduled for January 18, 2026 at Danny Lopez Park (4300 N Silverbell Rd, Tucson, AZ 85745). The event includes a 10K, 5K, and a FitKidz Mile. The 10K is part of The Running Shop SAR Grand Prix series. The race benefits the Gratitude and Grace Foundation.
Course, registration and awards
The course is a loop around the Santa Cruz River Path through the Sweetwater Riparian area, with gently rolling hills. The start/finish area is on the far southeast corner of Danny Lopez Park near Ramada #8; parking is available to the west of the start/finish. Pre-race packet pickup is offered the day before at The Running Shop (3055 N. Campbell Ave) and additional pickup is available on race day.
Both the 5K and 10K award the top three finishers in 5-year age groups. The first 500 registered participants receive a race t-shirt and a medal. The event also offers a FitKidz registration option; parents are encouraged to register children in advance to ensure bib assignment and electronic timing results.
