Scenic Road Racing in Southern Utah
The Sun Marathon takes place in the St. George and Santa Clara areas of Southern Utah. This winter event is designed to offer a warmer climate for road runners. The courses are set against a backdrop of large red rock mountains and scenic natural features. Participants in the marathon distance pass by the Gunlock Reservoir, while both the marathon and half marathon routes follow a local river.
The terrain for these races is primarily downhill, though the courses do include some rolling sections and a few uphill climbs. The finish line features a spectator chute where attendees cheer for arriving participants.
Available race distances:
- Full Marathon (26.2 miles)
- Half Marathon (13.1 miles)
- 10K
- 5K
In addition to the standard categories, the event offers a specific Full Slow Racer option for the marathon. This category provides an early start for participants who expect a finishing time of seven hours or more. A virtual race option is also available for those unable to attend in person. The event is organized by On Hill Events, and packet pickup is available prior to the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
