Summer Solstice Endurance Run : Redbud Park, Abilene, TX
The 20th Annual Summer Solstice Endurance Runs take place at Redbud Park in South Abilene (3125 S 32nd St). The event uses a one-mile loop course around the park with no street crossings; the loop is well lit after dark. A single, well-stocked aid station offers Gatorade and water as well as typical ultra-style items including peanuts, chips, Oreos, M&Ms, and pizza. Runners who carry a bottle or hydration pack can refill it after every loop.
Organizers locate the start/finish near the park playground in the middle of the park. Chip timing is provided by Abilene Runners Club and published results will list laps, distance, and finishing time. Participants may set up a lawn chair near the start/finish and may use a drop bag for gear; a flashlight may help when searching a drop bag at night. For those tracking marathon-equivalent distance, the event notes that completing 27 loops equals 26.2 miles for Marathon Maniacs credit. Shirts are not guaranteed for registrations after June 8.
