2026 Steamboat Challenge
The Steamboat Challenge is a road running event held in Buffalo Gap, Texas, organized by the Abilene Runner's Club. The event features multiple distance options and takes place on out and back courses that begin at the Buffalo Gap Community Center.
Participants can choose from several distances:
- Half Marathon
- 10K
- 5K
- 2 Person Half Marathon Relay
The courses are characterized by hilly terrain, specifically taking runners over several elevations with views from the top of Steamboat Mountain. For the relay category, the first participant runs the opening leg to the top of the mountain, while the second participant completes the course from that point to the finish line in Tuscola.
All events are chip-timed, and the official results are published online following the completion of the races. The event has a total course time limit of 4 hours and 30 minutes. Participant packets are distributed on the day prior to the race at a designated running store in Abilene. The registration is open to individual age group and open categories, with a specific team registration option available for the relay event.
