Summer Solstice Challenge 2026
The Summer Solstice Challenge takes place on 21 June 2026 at Abberton Reservoir Visitors Centre near Colchester. The event is held in association with Essex Wildlife Trust, which will receive a donation from the event proceeds. The challenge runs on the evening of the solstice.
Format and route
Participants run repeated laps of a loop around the reservoir. Each lap is just over 5k and starts and finishes at the Visitors Centre. The event is organised as a timed challenge lasting up to six hours, and participants may choose to run for any duration within that period. A feed station is located at the Visitors Centre so runners pass it on every lap.
Entry, capacity and facilities
Entry costs £23, which includes a medal. An event t-shirt or vest can be purchased during sign-up for £15. The Visitors Centre will be open throughout the event with refreshments available to purchase and space for friends and family to watch as runners pass by. The organiser has set a total of 125 places and the event status is listed as open. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
