Event Overview
The Summer Session is a running event offering 10k and 5k distances, along with a non-competitive kids' sprint. The event starts and finishes at Trailside Brewing at Lennox Station in Hendersonville, North Carolina.
Race Distances
The event features three race options:
- A 10k race.
- A 5k race.
- A Sunshine Kids Sprint, which is a non-competitive, untimed event for children covering a quarter-mile.
Course Information
Both the 10k and 5k courses start in front of Trailside Brewing and are out-and-back routes on the Ecusta Trail, a greenway converted from a former rail line.
Schedule and Registration
The event takes place on a Saturday in late June. Packet pick-up is available on the Friday evening before the race and again on race morning. Participants can register for in-person races or a virtual option. Virtual participants receive their race bib, shirt, and medal by mail after the event date (US shipping only).
What's Included
Registration for the 10k and 5k includes a commemorative race shirt, a finisher medal, and a Trailside beer (for participants 21+) or a non-alcoholic beverage. Registration for the kids' Sunshine Sprint includes a finisher medal and race bib. A portion of race proceeds is donated to the Mills River Partnership.
Awards
Awards are given for the 10k and 5k races. Overall top finishers and age group winners in the male, female, and nonbinary categories receive prizes, including gift certificates to Fleet Feet Asheville and Trailside Brewing pint glasses.
