Summer Sendoff 5K & 1 Mile
The Summer Sendoff is a community running and walking event held at Pickering Valley Elementary School and Eagle Crossroads Park in Chester Springs, PA. It includes a 5K run and a 1 mile walk that both begin and end at the event site. The 5K follows the "Byers Loop" course, which has been used by youth runners and experienced local competitors.
Event services include chip timing provided by 2L Race Services, a water station and a tent at the start and finish area, and music near the course. Every registered participant receives a 2026 DriFit T-shirt. Cash prizes are awarded to the top three overall male and female finishers. Medals are given to the top three finishers in each age group, from 9 and under through 70 and over. Additional event features listed by the organizer include raffle baskets, bib number prizes, and games along the 1 mile walk route.
The event supports the nonprofit Best Buddies; a portion of each registration is donated, and since 2024 the event has donated over $4,500. The Summer Sendoff began as a graduation service project in 2022 by local high school cross country and track athletes and continues as an annual community tradition. The event is held rain or shine.
