Summer Sendoff 5K & 1 Mile

The Summer Sendoff 5K & 1 Mile is scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026, in Chester Springs, Pennsylvania. The event takes place at Pickering Valley Elementary School and Eagle Crossroads Park, where the 5K run and the 1 Mile walk begin and end.

Past editions included organized timing services, event shirts for registrants, cash prizes for the top three overall male and female finishers, medals for the top three finishers in each age group, raffle baskets, and bib number prizes. Organizers added music, a water station, and a tent at the start and finish area in 2025.

The Summer Sendoff also incorporates a fundraising element. In 2025 the event named Best Buddies as its nonprofit recipient and a portion of registrations is donated to that organization. The event reported donating over $2,000 to Best Buddies in 2024, supported by more than 225 registered walkers and runners. The Summer Sendoff began in 2022 as a graduation service project created by Downingtown East and STEM Academy cross country and track and field athletes.
