Summer Extravaganza

The Summer Extravaganza is an event organised by Its Grim Up North Running that takes place on the Leeds/Liverpool Canal at Kirkstall, about three miles outside the centre of Leeds. The route follows a canal towpath and is run as a lapped course, with one lap measuring 6.7 miles. The event is licenced by the Trail Running Association and has a 6.5 hour cut off for longer distances.

There are five distances on offer:

  • 10k
  • 10 Miles
  • 20 Miler
  • Half Marathon
  • Marathon

Feed stations are positioned roughly every three miles and provide drinks and a range of food. Marshals are posted along the route to give encouragement. The organisers aim to be cup-less and recommend runners bring a reusable cup or bottle. Large over ear headphones are not permitted; bone conduction or one in one out earphones are acceptable. Participants should be aware there may be unmarshalled road crossings.

Registration is located across the road at Hollybush Conservation Centre, Broad Lane, Kirkstall, Leeds LS5 3BP, where toilets are available and bibs are issued on the day. Car parking is free at Morrisons in Kirkstall, a short walk from the start and finish area. The organisers donate £1 to the Hollybush charity for every runner. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
