Strides for SOS 5K & 1 Mile Run/Walk
Strides for SOS is a community running event held at Beverly Park in Beverly Hills, Michigan. The event serves as a fundraiser for Schools Offer Support (SOS), an organization that provides outreach and financial assistance to members of the Birmingham Public Schools community. Participants can choose between two primary distances:
- 5K Run or Walk
- 1 Mile Run or Walk
The event is open to participants aged 90 and under. The primary assembly point is the Beverly Park Pavilion, where in-person registration and packet collection occur. On-site registration accepts payments via check, cash, or Venmo. Participants who register by September 12th are eligible to receive an event t-shirt, which must be collected in person as mailing options are not available.
Parking is available at the Beverly Park lot, with overflow parking located at the adjacent Beverly Elementary School on Beverly Road. Honors are awarded to the top overall male and female finishers in the 5K, as well as various age group categories ranging from 12 and under to 80-89. The 1 Mile event includes specific awards for participants aged 9 and under and those aged 10-14. Additionally, the top male and female students from each Birmingham Public School are recognized in both distances. A special activity during the 1 Mile race involves a chance for participants to race against a person dressed as a banana. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
