28th Annual S.A.D.D. Strides for Safety

The Strides for Safety event in Oneonta, New York, is a community-focused athletic event now in its 28th year. The gathering centers on a 5K Run/Walk designed to raise awareness and financial support for local Students Against Destructive Decisions (S.A.D.D.) chapters. The event is held rain or shine, featuring both in-person and virtual participation options to accommodate different preferences.

The in-person course starts on East Street near Bugbee Road. Participants have the choice to compete in age-specific categories or take part without being ranked for age-based awards. Top finishers in various age groups are recognized after the event in the Oneonta High School gymnasium. For those choosing the virtual option, a random prize drawing is available for all registrants.

Beyond the run and walk, the event hosts a Health Fair in the local high school gym. This fair includes various exhibitors, games, and activities such as face painting. The primary aim of the gathering is to encourage the community to stay active while supporting youth in making responsible life choices.

Available distances and formats:

  • 5K Run/Walk (In-person)
  • 5K Run/Walk (Virtual)

Specific course regulations are in place for the safety of all attendees. While strollers are permitted on the course, dogs and the use of earphones are not allowed during the activity. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
