STRC Trailfest at Sugar Hill
STRC Trailfest at Sugar Hill is a timed loop trail event hosted by the Southern Tier Running Club in Sugar Hill State Forest near Watkins Glen, NY. The event offers three timed durations:
- 3 hour
- 6 hour
- 12 hour
Each event uses a roughly 4 mile trail loop with about 500 feet of elevation gain per loop. Runners complete as many loops as they can within their chosen time limit; only loops finished before the time limit are counted. A fully stocked aid station is located at the loop start and finish to provide food and hydration.
Entry fees are stated as $65 for the 3 hour option, $85 for the 6 hour option, and $100 for the 12 hour option. Participant benefits include access to the aid station, post-run food, a custom BOCO Gear hat for participants, a finisher medal, and awards for male and female winners. A portion of proceeds will be donated to a local trail organization.
Camping is available in the Sugar Hill Recreation Area and elsewhere in the state forest. Twenty-six designated campsites are in the Fire Tower area on a first-come, first-serve basis; additional primitive sites and five lean-tos are located elsewhere in the forest. The recreation area includes a pavilion, picnic tables, and seasonal potable water and restroom access.
Parking is limited and the event is capped at 100 participants. No parking is permitted on the road leading to the Fire Tower area. Volunteers are needed for parking, the aid station, post-run food, and course support. Registration closes on Wed, Sep 2. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
