STRC Trailfest at Sugar Hill
The STRC Trailfest at Sugar Hill is a timed loop course challenge held within the Sugar Hill State Forest in Watkins Glen, New York. Organized by the Southern Tier Running Club, this event focuses on community and fitness in a trail setting. Participants navigate a 4 mile trail loop that features approximately 500 feet of elevation gain per loop.
The event offers three distinct durations for participants to choose from:
- 3-Hour
- 6-Hour
- 12-Hour
The challenge is to complete as many laps as possible within the chosen time limit. Only loops fully completed before the time limit expires count towards the final total. There is no requirement to run the entire duration; participants may run, walk, or hike, and are free to take breaks at the staging area between loops.
A fully stocked aid station is located at the start and finish of the loop to provide hydration and fuel. After the event, a social gathering takes place at a covered pavilion featuring food such as burgers, hot dogs, and vegetarian or vegan options. Participants receive a finisher medal and custom BOCO Gear hats, with special awards designated for the top male and female performers.
The event is held in the Fire Tower Area of the forest, which includes various camping options such as designated sites with fire rings and picnic tables, as well as lean-tos and primitive backcountry camping. Due to limited parking at the venue, registration is capped at 100 participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
