Event overview

The 16th annual Strain for the Brain takes place on May 30, 2026, in Milwaukee, WI, at Veterans Park (1010 N. Lincoln Memorial Drive). The event honors individuals diagnosed with brain tumors and raises funds for brain tumor research, medical treatments, and support programs. The event has donated over $600,000 to brain tumor research at Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin. The current fundraising goal is $200,000, with $49,572 raised toward that goal.

Regular entry fees are listed for the non-survivor events; survivor entries are offered without charge. The 5K is chip timed by Silver Circle Sports Events, LLC with a chip start; walkers are not timed. There is one aid station on course. Top three male and female finishers in 5-year age groups receive a custom medal and an awards ceremony is held at the event.

Logistics and policies

T-shirts are unisex cotton; registrants by May 16 are guaranteed a custom race shirt. Gold shirts are provided to brain cancer survivors. Team packets are preassembled for teams of five or more; the team captain or a designee may pick up the full team packet. On-site packet pickup is available on race day. Parking is available on-site and on nearby public streets. Pets are not permitted. Refunds are not allowed, but transfers, deferrals, and other registration changes are available.
