Event Overview

The Straightening the Path 5K is an annual fundraiser held at the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary. The event serves to raise money and awareness for scoliosis, focusing on early detection and community support. All proceeds from the race, after expenses, benefit the National Scoliosis Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to public awareness, research, and education for those affected by scoliosis.

The event offers the following distances:

  • 5K (Timed)
  • 5K (Untimed)
  • Virtual 5K

The course is located at 201 Soccer Park Drive and features directional signs and volunteers to assist participants. A water station is positioned at the halfway point, and additional water is provided at the start and finish lines. Participants also have access to fruit and snacks.

Registered participants who sign up as timed entries receive an official finish time and eligibility for awards. Those in the untimed category will not appear in official results but can view their time on a digital clock at the finish. Awards are presented to the top overall male and female finishers, as well as the top three finishers in several age groups ranging from 14-under to 60-over.

All participants who register by the mid-June deadline are guaranteed a t-shirt and a swag bag. Packet pickup and late registration are available at the race site on the morning of the event. Discounts are available for teams of 10 or more people. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
