About the race
The Sisters Network Inc. Stop the Silence National African American Breast Cancer 5K Walk/Run is a national event held in April to draw attention to National Minority Health Awareness Month. The event on April 17, 2027 takes place at Tom Bass Regional Park - Section 1, 3452 Fellows Rd, Houston, TX 77047.
The event includes individual, team, and kids 5K walk/run entries. Registration opens on November 2, 2026. Individual and team registration deadlines are listed as February 22, 2027, while the kids registration deadline is April 16, 2027 at 19:00. Registration fees shown in the event information include an individual fee of $35 and a team fee as listed; team fees may vary depending on how a team is created or joined. Participants who wish to be guaranteed a t-shirt must be registered and have sizes entered by March 23; team entries require all names and sizes entered by that date. Kids T shirt sizes are not available.
First launched in April 2010, the event is described as the first and only national breast cancer walk hosted by a black-led organization for Black women. Over 17 years, more than 4,000 participants from around the United States have traveled to Houston annually to honor and celebrate Black women diagnosed with breast cancer. A portion of funds raised supports the Sisters Network Inc. Karen E. Jackson Breast Cancer Assistance Program, which pays for 3D mammograms for uninsured women and provides financial assistance to survivors currently in treatment.
