Stickle Grind 650

The Stickle Grind 650 is a vertical running event situated in the Lake District, organized by Lake District Sky Trails in partnership with the National Trust and Lanty Slees. The course takes place within a UNESCO World Heritage Site and involves a direct ascent of Harrison Stickle. Participants navigate a fully marked uphill trail starting from Lanty Slees Stickle Barn in Ambleside.

The race follows a specific route on the fells:

  • 2.4 km course with 650 m of total vertical ascent.

The route begins in front of the Stickle Barn and heads toward Stickle Tarn. It uses the main footpath on the east side of Stickle Ghyll, involving a short scramble before crossing stepping stones to the west side of the ghyll. After reaching a manned checkpoint at Stickle Tarn, the path continues up the eastern flanks of Harrison Stickle to reach the rocky summit finish. Once the race is completed, participants descend via the same marked route.

The event is open to individuals aged 16 and older. Participants receive a recycled papier-mâché flower seed medal upon completion. The race weekend also features live music and social gatherings at the Stickle Barn. Professional safety teams manage the course, which is part of a larger weekend of skyrunning events in the Great Langdale area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
