About the race
The Sterling Down and Dirty is an annual, family friendly 5k-ish obstacle run held each September at Stratford Short Beach (1 Dorne Dr, Stratford, CT). The course runs across sand and beach terrain and features more than 18 obstacles where participants may get wet, sandy, and muddy. Entrants may choose to race the full obstacle course or move through the course at a more casual pace.
Proceeds from the event support Sterling Community Center programs, services, and members of the Resource Connection Program. To date the event has helped raise $250,000 toward programs, services, and financial aid. Typical participation exceeds 300 people, families, and children each year.
The event supports individual fundraisers and team fundraising. Individuals who fundraise can earn milestone incentives and have their totals count toward any team totals. Team entries are organized during registration and include informal recognitions such as awards for Most Team Spirit and Most Funds Raised.
Volunteer roles include positions such as Obstacle Facilitator and Course Guide. Sponsorship opportunities are offered at multiple levels, with benefits that may include complimentary runner registrations, promotional visibility, and onsite branding.
