Event overview
The Sterling Down and Dirty 5K Obstacle Race is an annual, family-friendly event held at Stratford Short Beach in Stratford, CT. The event for 2026 is scheduled for September 5th at 1 Dorne Dr. The course is a 5k across the beach and includes more than 18 obstacles. Participants may run, walk, or complete the course recreationally and can choose to race the obstacles or take a noncompetitive approach.
Participation and fundraising
Participants may enter individually or as part of a team. Team categories include General Teams, Sterling Spirit Teams, School Teams, and Corporate Teams. Fundraising is integrated with the event: individual fundraisers can earn swag as they reach fundraising milestones, and individual totals contribute to team fundraising balances. Proceeds support Sterling Community Center programs, services, and members of the Resource Connection Program. The event reports an impact of about $250,000 raised toward programs, services, and financial aid and typically draws more than 300 people, families, and children each year. Sponsorship
