Sterling Down and Dirty 5k : Stratford Short Beach
The Sterling Down and Dirty is an annual, family friendly 5k obstacle race held at Stratford Short Beach in September. The course runs along the beach and includes more than 18 obstacles that send participants through sand and water. Participants may run, walk, skip, or dance their way to the finish while becoming sweaty, sandy, dirty, and wet.
The event supports Sterling Community Center programs and the Resource Connection Program. Historically the race has raised funds for center programs and financial aid, with a reported $250,000 raised to date. Typical participation exceeds 300 people each year, including families and children.
Fundraising is organized both for individuals and teams. Individual fundraising totals can contribute to a team balance. Teams can register in one of four categories: General Teams, Sterling Spirit Teams, School Teams, and Corporate Teams. Fundraising milestones are tied to donor rewards and event swag.
The event also involves volunteers and sponsors at multiple levels. Sponsor benefits are listed by tier and include promotional and onsite recognition. The atmosphere emphasizes community involvement, group fundraising, and outdoor physical activity on the beach. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
